Patient Number 7000 for Marcus Cope
Wednesday 29 November 2017

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Marcus Cope has treated patient number 7,000 at Fulwood Hall Hospital. The double-knee surgery patient, Ann Marsh, 72, from New Longton in Preston suffered from osteoarthritis and chose Fulwood Hall Hospital through a friend’s recommendation and, after numerous pain treatments in the past, decided to have surgery with Mr Cope.

Mrs Marsh, who is very happy with the results of her surgery said:

“Both knees got so painful that I was struggling to walk. I had tried everything and had enough, so I went to see Mr Cope at Fulwood Hall Hospital in March this year. He said that my left knee was the worst and he would need to do them one at a time; 7 months later, both knees are done.”

Ann is now 6 weeks post-op, recovering well and walking with the aid of walking sticks.

She added:

“I am so happy that I decided to go through with surgery. The staff at Fulwood Hall Hospital are amazing, they cannot do enough for you; it was like staying in a hotel. Surgery was a big decision for me, but if you do the exercises they give you, you will recover in no time. If I had to give anyone any advice on knee surgery I would say get them done!”

Ann is looking forward to walking without her sticks and getting back into her passion for gardening.

Mr Cope, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Fulwood Hall Hospital, who is delighted with his achievement and the progress made by Mrs Marsh said:

"I have collected all my operating data since starting my training as a registrar. An average orthopaedic surgeon would operate on 10,500 cases in their career. I have achieved 7,000 in 10 years.  However, the real achievement is seeing how well my patients, like Mrs Marsh, do with this modern miracle of medicine.”
